Volunteer with the California Browncoats

Every year the California Browncoats host booths at WonderCon in San Francisco and Comic-Con in San Diego. Sometimes we also have booths at other conventions in California and for every one of these we need volunteers! As an event grows close we will post a message to our website and also to many local groups asking for volunteers. Simply email us if you want to help out.

We also have a Yahoo group for our volunteers, which is the best way to stay current on what’s going on. Sign up at the group and you will receive updates and all the necessary information for each event we run. Volunteers are responsible for purchasing their own tickets for entrance to each event.

Want to Get More Involved?

Event Committee Member
The CABC booths are organized by a committee and every year we seek new committee members to give Browncoats a chance to get more involved. Committee members are reponsible for coordinating the event’s charity fundraiser, promoting our presence at the event, designing the look of the booth, getting volunteers to work at the event, organizing the things we sell, and a number of other ‘behind-the-scenes’ activities that make our booth so popular.

Committee Positions

  • Chairperson - Runs the committee
  • Charity Coordinator - Charity contact, runs fundraiser, finds sponsors
  • Sales Coordinator - Vendor contact, merchandise logistics
  • Fan Outreach - Promotion of the fandom at the event, meeting room, special events
  • Publications - Coordinating creation of all printed matter
  • Promotions - Online posts, press releases, advertising
  • Booth Design - Creates the look of the booth
  • Volunteer Coordinator - Organizes, schedules and main contact for volunteers

The committee works online for months before the event using a Yahoo group. Some of the positions will overlap areas, i.e. the Volunteer Coordinator will write the invitation to volunteer, but the Promotions coordinator will post it online. Each committee member is expected to participate with ideas and in discussions for all areas as it is a collaborative effort.

Some committee positions, such as charity organizer or volunteer coordinator, require your presence at the entire event. However others, like promotions or publications, are positions in which the majority of the work is completed before the event so anyone from around California can participate without having to attend the event. Committee members will be supplied tickets to the event by the California Browncoats as they are expected to be working at least six hours each day.

To become a committee member:

  • Must have volunteered at least six (6) hours total at one or more events
  • Must get a referral from an event chairperson

If you have already volunteered at least six hours at one of our events and are interested in working on a committee please send us an email. Be sure to include which area you are interested in working on.

Event Chairperson
The chairperson heads up the committee and, in conjunction with the California Browncoats Board of Directors, makes all final decisions related to the event.

To become a chairperson:

  • Must have volunteered at least six (6) hours total at one or more events
  • Must have been a committee member of an event
  • Must be recommended by that event’s chairperson

If you are interested in becoming a committee member or an event chairperson, please email us or speak with a Board Member in person.
