2009 San Diego Comic-Con Waterkeeper Alliance Fundraiser Total

The California Browncoats are proud to announce the total raised for Waterkeeper Alliance at San Diego Comic-Con in 2009.  Thanks to the support of attendees and fans, we will be sending $10,000!  The breakdown of the donation is as follows:

  • Donations - $5,464.08
  • Exclusive Serenity Shirt sales - $3,174.00
  • CABC Donation - $1,361.92

We gave away 176 Exclusive Water Bottles as a free gift with a minimum $15 donation. The CABC donation is taken from sales of other items not specifically designated for a charity.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated and helped spread the word about Waterkeeper Alliance!

During the CABC meeting room, Nathan Fillion showed up as a surprise guest. After answering questions, he took the time to pose with fans for some group photos.  If you were in one of the photos and want a copy, here is what you do.

This exclusive is FREE!  Yes, you heard us right: FREE!  Our course, we will ask you to dig deep and give a credit or two for Waterkeeper Alliance. CABC Exclusive - Dr. Horrible Goggle Mask

The California Browncoats are proud to announce another Comic-Con 2009 Exclusive Item.  To assist you in your evil plans, we have Dr. Horrible Goggle Masks.  These glossy cardstock masks feature the artwork of fan-favorite artist Adam Levermore and are officially approved by Team Horrible (Mutant Enemy).  No self-respecting Evil League of Evil applicant will want to leave Comic-Con without one.

But wait, what is our evil plan to get these to you?  Simple really. They’re FREE! All you have to do is pick one up from our tables (A7/A8) at any of the random times throughout the convention when we put them out.   Afraid you’ll miss out?  Not to worry, we’ll be announcing when the goggles are up for grabs on Twitter! We will of course ask for a small donation to Waterkeeper Alliance if you’re feeling charitable. A donation is not required though, as these are FREE!

There’s going to be one more chance for you to get your gloves on this awesome exclusive. Every attendee of our screening of Dr.  Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will be given a Goggle Mask.  That’s right, 1000 fans who show up to sing their hearts out will walk out with more than just the feeling of a job well done.

CABC Exclusive - Official Serenity T-Shirt

The California Browncoats are proud to offer for the first time anywhere an all new officially licensed Serenity T-Shirt.  This shirt features the Chinese characters for Serenity on the front and a small image of the ship Serenity on the back.  It will only be available at Comic-Con 2009 from the California Browncoats. Events

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog -  The California Browncoats host a screening of the original three acts, followed immediately by Commentary! The Musical. See why Joss Whedon’s (Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) first foray into webisodic “television” was the talk of the town with critics and fans alike in 2008. Be prepared for a night of singing and surprises hosted by the fans who know what you like best. Dr. Horrible stars Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly), and Felicia Day (The Guild) and is written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon (Dollhouse), Zack Whedon (Fringe), and Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse). Thursday, July 23, 8pm - 10pm. Room 6A

California Browncoats Meeting Room - As always, we will have a meeting room on Sunday afternoon from 12:00 - 2:00 PM in Room 24A. Items on the schedule of events include announcements about upcoming California Browncoat events and charity auctions. Expect news on new products from companies like Dark Horse Comics and Quantum Mechanix. Hear from Shawna Trpcic, a fan favorite costumer designer who is currently working on Dollhouse and has worked on Angel, Point Pleasant, K-Ville, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and Firefly. Sunday, July 26, 12pm - 2pm. Room 24A.

“Jayne Hat” Flash Mob - One of our exciting freebies this year is a Jayne Hat on a Stick - join us for our flash mob! Walk down through the halls and show everyone you’re not afraid of anything. Meet up with your fellow Browncoats Saturday at 11:10 outside Ballroom 20 (near the exit to the Sails Pavilion). All you will need is a few spare minutes, a Jayne Hat or Jayne Hat on a Stick, and the fearlessness to wear such a cunning hat.

Special Guest Appearances

Nancy Holder - Nancy is a best-selling author, professor and mom. She has written over 80 books, including many in the fan favorite universes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Smallville. She also has written the Pretty Freekin Scary series, numerous short stories and articles, and co-written the Wicked series with Debbie Viguie. On top of all that she also teaches creative writing at the University of California at San Diego, including a course devoted to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Nancy will be signing at our table along with her daughter Belle. Thursday 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Belle Holder - Belle is the daughter of best-selling author Nancy Holder and is already a published author twice-over. Her two charming tales about a time-traveling mouse named Lightning Merriemouse Jones were co-written with her mom. She’s been a guest speaker at her mom’s class on short story writing at UCSD and is often found helping her mom work out plot points. Belle is already on her way to becoming a best-selling novelist just like her mom. Stop by the Browncoat booth for their signing and chat with this up-and-coming new writer. Thursday 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

PJ Haarsma - PJ is the author of The Softwire series and co-founder of Kids Need to Read. Kids Need to Read (KNTR) was co-founded by PJ with his good friend Nathan Fillion in order to foster the love of reading in children and provide books to libraries, schools and other institutions in need. The third book in PJ’s exciting sci fi series for children, “The Softwire: Wormhole Pirates on Orbis 3“, came out this April. Come by the booth and get your copy signed! Stop by to meet him, talk about his books and find out all about KNTR. Thursday 1:00 - 2:00 PM

Jamie Chambers - Jamie is a writer and game designer who has worked on many fan favorite RPG books. He was a writer for the Serenity Role Playing Game and has worked on many other projects for Margaret Weis Productions, including Supernatural, Dragonlance and Battlestar Galactica RPGs. He’s not only a creator but a fellow player too so stop by and get your RPG signed, chat gaming strategy and maybe hear some news about upcoming releases in the Serenity ‘verse. Friday 4:30-5:30 PM

Camden Toy - Camden is best known in the Whedon-verse for playing four different villains in shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. But Camden is more than just a great villain, an actor, writer and film editor he’s written and developed five different solo pieces that he has performed across the country. He has acted in well over one hundred independent films and edited many feature films. Come by the Browncoat booth and meet the lead Gentleman from “Hush“, Gnarl, The Ubervamp and The Prince of Lies all at once! Saturday 12:00-1:00 PM

Jim Krueger - Jim Krueger was named as one of the top ten writers in comics and an innovator in the field by Wizard Magazine. His original comics include The Foot Soldiers and The Clock Maker. He has also written for Earth X, Avengers, X-Men, Star Wars, and Batman, among others. He wrote Serenity: The Other Half for MySpace Dark Horse Presents (MDHP Issue 13) and will be the writer of the upcoming Shepherd Book comic “Shepherd’s Tale” for Dark Horse. Saturday 2:00-3:00 PM

Freebies

We don’t want you to walk away from our tables empty handed (besides all the swag you purchase). That means we’ve got some great free items you can pick up when you stop by and visit. These items will be in limited supply and given out at random times every day. But really, is it a bad thing stopping by multiple times during the convention? Comic-Con 2009: CABC Proud to Support Waterkeeper Alliance

The California Browncoats are pleased to announce our charity pick for Comic-Con 2009. We will be raising funds and awareness for The Waterkeeper Alliance, an international grassroots organization advocating to keep pollutants out of our water.

The Waterkeeper Alliance has been supported by several Firefly/Serenity cast members in the past and we are very excited to be working with an organization dedicated to keeping our planet healthy for everyone. Stay tuned to this site to learn what exciting things we have in store for you!

The California Browncoats - Comic-Con 2009 - Keeping Earth That Is from becoming Earth That Was
