Back to the Backup Bash

The California Browncoats have a little something special for those old timers who were fans way back when. For those who were at the Browncoat Backup Bash in 2006; we have an orange rubber bracelet with “B3″ engraved in it. Stop by our table during Comic-Con (A7/A8) and let one of our available volunteers know you’d like one.

2010 San Diego CSTS Prizes and Merchandise

If you’re coming to the Can’t Stop the Serenity event in San Diego (of course you are!), you aren’t just going to see a movie. You’ll be a part of a global event that raises thousands of dollars each year for Equality Now. You also won’t be going home empty handed.

In addition to CSTS and other merchandise you can purchase, with all proceeds going to Equality Now, there will be a Thank You Prize Drawing. Why? Because we want to thank you for donating and we have all these prizes to give away.

In order for us to give them away, we need some tickets to draw. That means for every $2.00 you donate, we’ll give you a ticket. Or you can get 3 tickets for every $5.00 you donate. Now, you may be thinking about getting a little crazy and donating more than $5.00. We like that kind of crazy! Donate as much as your heart demands. Your tickets will be waiting.

2010 WonderCon Prize Game

The California Browncoats will be giving away 50 shiny prizes at WonderCon. How are we going to do this? How can you win a prize? How can you support Equality Now while you’re at it?

We’re glad we asked for you!

It’s the Stick Pull game!

Here’s the basic rundown:

Suggested Donation: $5 per pull (This is where supporting EN comes in)

Pull one set of chopsticks from the board.

No matter what, you keep that set of chopsticks! (Everyone’s a winner!)

If your chopsticks are marked with white at the tip, you win an additional prize! You can choose any one prize from the prize bin that will be presented to you.

That’s it! Donate to EN, get a set of chopsticks, and maybe you’ll go home with something extra.  We’ll try and get a list of the prizes here before WonderCon, but if not, you can check them out at the booth. Let’s just say we’ve raided the CABC Prize Vault for some rare, exclusive, and usually signed items. For a paltry $5 suggested donation, how could you not play this game?!?!

2010 WonderCon Charity - Equality Now

The California Browncoats are once again raising money for Joss Whedon’s favorite charity, Equality Now. This will be our first fundraising event in the “Year of Equality Now” we announced last year. As always we will be taking donations, offering free gifts, giving away prizes and selling shiny merchandise.  Stop by our booth at Tables F9/F10 and help us support Equality Now!

Ways to donate:

1. Straight cash donation. We will send 100% of the money you donate directly to Equality Now.  And if you donate $15 or more, we’ll give you an exclusive Browncoat RuMe bag as a Thank You gift.

2. Play our Stick Pull game. Check out our Prizes page for details.

3. Buy items specifically marked as “proceeds  to Equality Now” and you’ll get something cool and we’ll send 100% of the proceeds to Equality Now. Items include the all new and exclusive Beverage Wrench and Carabiner.

Thank you for helping us raise awareness and money for Equality Now!

One of a Kind Mal Holster Prop Replica Auction for ALS

The California Browncoats are proud to give you the chance to win a very special one of a kind item:

A Firefly Replica Captain Malcom Reynolds Hero Holster by Brennan Byers of gbb Custom Leather

The lucky winner of this auction will own a very unique piece of Firefly history. This holster is the hand made custom prop replica prototype created by master leather craftsman Brennan Byers of gbb Custom Leather. It is made from the exact pattern as the holster that is worn by none other than Nathan “Captain Malcolm Reynolds” Fillion in the television series Firefly. This prototype was created as an example for a limited and numbered series being done by gbb Custom Leather. It is the only holster besides the one used in the series that will not be numbered. Brennan explained that the holster Mal wears looks slightly different because the studio wanted it aged and this prototype is in new/unused condition.

Brennan was impressed with the charity work that CABC was doing at last year’s Creation Convention and donated this fantastic item to us at the end of the convention, with the request that we use it to raise funds for charity. Specifically, Brennan requested that the CABC auction this holster to raise funds toward curing Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as ‘Lou Gehrig’s Disease’ - in his own words earlier this year:

“A very old and dear friend, Harry Adronis, who is well known in the industry, was diagnosed with A.L.S. a few months ago. My friend was a respected sound technician, mixer and editor until this diagnosis. He is only 50 years old and has had an extensive career in his field in music, film and television. He explained to me that since there are relatively few people stricken with the disease, there is little funding going to research because the drug companies would be hard pressed to recover their investment. Coincidentally, a very good friend of my brother¹s was also stricken with this horrible disease just recently”

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain, through the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. ALS causes progressive degeneration of motor neurons, which effects the brain’s ability to initiate and control muscle movement. With voluntary muscle action severely limited, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. Essentially, the body degrades while the mind stays sharp and aware. It is a very cruel and frightening way to die.

Please join us in supporting the fight against ALS and bid on this wonderful and unique Firefly item. 100% of the winning bid will be donated to The ALS Association.
